***ON PRE ORDER LANDING IN NOVEMBER***
We designed the Basez Extreme with a very clear brief: To simply produce the warmest, most comfortable, quickest drying and best designed winter base layer on the market.
Last year, our superb Basez2 base layer was voted “Best Base Layer” by The Independent. The new Basez Extreme is much warmer and more insulating; it provides a whole new level of protection from the elements and will quickly become your favourite winter garment as the temperature drops.
Made with Seamless Manufacture and with a base yarn of Polypropylene, the Basez Extreme offers more warmth than any winter base layer currently on the market. Used next to your skin, it traps pockets of warm air and holds your body at optimum temperature regardless of how hard you work. The weaves and waffles on the inside of the fabric actively pull moisture away from the body keeping you warm, comfortable and dry.
In addition to the insulating seamless manufacture, we have added a wind-stopping, breathable membrane across the chest of the Basez Extreme. This offers a barrier to the cold wind and helps to trap heat against your body. It also helps you feel protected from the weather as you step out into the cold.
After four winters of testing in the UK, Alps and Pyrenees, we are confident in saying that this garment genuinely replaces 2-3 other base layers. Worn under our Shield Jacket or HeatR 4-Season Jersey, you can face the elements and stay warm and comfortable no matter what mother nature throws at you…
The Basez Extreme is cut with long arms, a dropped rear, short front and high neck. It is ergonomically designed to be close fitting but not at all restrictive.
There is nothing on the market quite like this garment, we have developed it from scratch. It will set a new standard for winter base layers and change the way you dress for winter forever...

Please note that the Basez Extreme is cut for cycling. As such it is a close fit and is exceptionally comfortable when in a cycling position. When worn, (if it is the correct size), it should feel snug around the shoulders, but obviously not restrictive. On these specialist cycling garments, a snug fit is a good fit! If you require this garment for skiing etc, it may be sensible to "size up".

very good but a bit too small no xxl so no other choice
not all cyclists are n built like sticks!!
When I received the Basez Extreme, I noticed that it wasn’t much thicker than the older winter base, a big plus as I hate to feel over dressed when layering up in winter.
The fit was perfect, and when used in combination with the new winter bibs and new winter jacket, the Basez becomes a perfect combination. As the bibs have a built in gilet , you only need the Basez Extreme and jacket to stay perfectly warm and regulated when the temperature drops to near freezing.
I was never to hot or to cold in the Basez, and would highly recommend it.
Absolutely the best base layer I’ve ever used. Warm when it should be and cool on the climbs. Used my Castelli when it was in the wash last week, it’s nowhere as effective. Good for freezing conditions up to about 10, with one winter jersey. So good I wear it round the house when it’s cold.
Super. Thanks Ed.
I’ve been waiting for the colder weather to write a proper cold review, on Sunday it was between 3 and 5 degrees C and raining, perfect weather to test the base layer.
Worn under a winter jacket, usually I would wear a long sleeved mesh base and short sleeved cycle jersey. No need with the Spatz base, it performed perfectly over the 3.5 hours of CX, my usual set up often left me feeling damp and cold, this was not the case with the Spatz base, I was warm through out the ride, and after a coffee stop, with my usual set up I would definitely feel cold starting the ride after a cafe stop.
Sizing was as expected. I’m 78kg and 180cm. Medium was spot on.
The high neck makes everything cosy, plus the thumb hoops keep everything in place. Arm length was perfect whilst were talking thumb hoops. The base has a good length and is very stretchy.
It’s s bit pricy, but worth every penny to be kept warm without over heating.
I score the Spatz Base a solid 10/10.
Bring on the winter and cold. #itsrainingyourtraining
Many thanks Carl.
Spatzwear NEVER disappoint. #FACT
If you want to ride your bike in winter without any bulk then this product is a must have. I wore mine in 4 to 6 degree rain for around 4 hours and didn't think once about the weather, in fact I punctured (yes I know, tubeless is the way forward blah blah blah) and the repair took 20 minutes or so but I still didn't get cold, it's wicking properties are amazing. Don't get me wrong this product is tight but the warmth this provides is well worth it, and it doesn't restrict any range of movement (on of off the bike). For reference I'm 78kg, 6'3 and wear M/L and the material is really stretchy.
This is a real game changer and probably removes at least one layer from your traditional winter riding wardrobe.
I've yet to try it but when we get closer to zero and below, I'm confident that paired with a Goretex Insulation jacket I wouldn't need anything else (I'd also be wearing THRMOZ gloves & Legalz overshoes) to keep me toastie for the duration of my ride.
I have zero hesitation is recommending this product (or any other Spatzwear product, especially anything that you put on your hands and feet). BTW I have no affiliation to Spatzwear but what I can tell you is that I've used all the 'best' brands before and this kit is right up if not better that the market leaders.
Thanks
Thanks very much Jon!
