SHIELD LITE Glasses Translucent Ice Grey

When we designed the original SHIELD glasses 3 years ago, we focussed on clarity of vision, field of vision, ventilation and protection (especially when you are in an aggressive, aero cycling position). Since then, we have sold thousand of pairs of the original SHIELD to many happy customers, plenty of which have bought them in multiple colours!

The brand new SHIELD LITE glasses are the natural evolution of this design. We have kept the industry leading field of vision but developed the aesthetic into a physically and visually lighter design. The design brief for the new SHIELD LITE was to create simply the best performing eyewear that is available for cyclists.

The lower half of the frame has been removed completely, allowing us to extend the lens further downwards whilst keeping the glasses away from your face for the ultimate in clarity, protection and field of vision.

No longer will your vision be impeded by your glasses frames as you hunker down into an aero tuck. No longer will debris spray up into your eyes, right when you require razor sharp vision to rail the next apex. Road racing: Check. Gravel: Check. TTs: Check. Technical Crits: Check. Lenses clip in and out easily so you can swap out lenses to suit the conditions of your ride.

In (what we think) is an industry first, not only is the lens photochromic, but so is the entire frame and nosepiece. When you pull the glasses from the box or bag, the frame and lens is practically clear-transparent, with only a hint of colour. When the UV hits the glasses, the lens and frame quickly transitions to a beautiful rich colour. When worn outdoors, the glasses are full of colour but as soon as you come back indoors the whole glasses transform back to a transparent ice-clear with only a suggestion of their former rich colour. During the prototype testing phase, we were often asked if we had taken 2 pairs of glasses on a bike ride!

The pivotal design feature of the new Spatz "SHIELD LITE" glasses is the position and rake angle of the lenses. The frame architecture has been specifically engineered to allow the lens to sit in an optimal position in relation to your eyes, cheekbones, eyebrows and nose. When we ride a bike (especially in an aggressive/aero position), our requirements for eyewear changes dramatically; our head tilts downwards and our eyes focus upwards towards the horizon. We have engineered eyewear which represents a seismic shift from what has been available. Until now.
